KANSAS CITY, Mo., March 13, 2012 – Today at The Walt Disney Company’s (NYSE: DIS) Annual Shareholder meeting in Kansas City, President and Chief Executive Officer Robert A. Iger announced Heroes Work Here, a new company-wide initiative to hire, train and support returning veterans. The new program continues Disney’s long history of respect and appreciation for the U.S. Armed Forces by expanding the company’s commitment to recognize and honor the sacrifice and service of these men and women.

As part of the initiative, Disney will provide at least 1,000 jobs and career opportunities for returning U.S. veterans over the next three years, support military families and veterans during their transition into civilian life, and launch a national public awareness campaign to encourage all employers across the U.S. to hire veterans.

In addition to providing career opportunities for veterans, Disney will also invest in select non-profit organizations that provide training and other support services.  Through the Disney VoluntEARS program, employees will also engage in service projects with veterans’ organizations in communities around the country. The public awareness campaign, featuring veterans currently employed in various businesses across The Walt Disney Company, will highlight their value, encourage companies to hire these highly skilled men and women, and direct them to the Joining Forces initiative for more information.

(March 7, 2012)  – The Happiest Place on Earth will get even happier June 15, 2012, with the grand opening of Cars Land, Buena Vista Street and the Carthay Circle Theatre at Disney California Adventure park. The exciting, new additions will complete the five-year expansion of Disneyland Resort, a premier, multi-day vacation destination in Southern California with two theme parks, three hotels and the Downtown Disney shopping and dining district.

With four new attractions opening at Disney California Adventure park, full day-to-night experiences at both parks, and the magical transformation of the Disneyland Hotel with new pools, themed suites and remodeled rooms, guests of all ages will enjoy more fun and adventure than ever before at the Disneyland Resort.

Cars Land expands Disney California Adventure by 12 acres and immerses guests in the thrilling world of the Disney•Pixar blockbuster “Cars.”  Guests will feel as if they have stepped into the town of Radiator Springs as they enjoy three family attractions showcasing characters and settings from the movie, plus “Cars”-themed dining and shopping locations such as Flo’s V8 Café, Ramone’s House of Body Art and Radiator Springs Curios.

One of the largest and most elaborate attractions ever created for a Disney park, Radiator Springs Racers is a twisting, turning, high-speed adventure through Ornament Valley and the town of Radiator Springs. Luigi’s Flying Tires invites guests to glide on air aboard special tires, whirling around with their pals. At Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, guests will whip around behind a baby tractor and enjoy tunes from a giant jukebox built from Mater’s most prized possessions.

Starting June 15, guests will enter Disney California Adventure along Buena Vista Street, a place that transports them to an era when Walt Disney arrived in California with new dreams:   1920s Los Angeles. Buena Vista Street features Red Car Trolleys, inspired by the transportation system that once served Southern California, and the Carthay Circle Theatre, modeled after the site of the 1937 world premiere of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” Carthay Circle Theatre will include a lounge and the elegant Carthay Circle Restaurant, designed to be the premier dining location in Disney California Adventure.

For the first time ever, both the Magic Kingdom Park and Disneyland Park were open for 24 hours straight as part of a bi-coastal salute called “One More Disney Day.” From 6 a.m., February 29 to 6 a.m., March 1, 2012, local time, guests filled the extra day of leap year with a marathon of Disney magic and fun.

At Disneyland, the celebration included complimentary “One More Disney Day” buttons for all guests and limited-edition “One More Disney Day” mouse ears for the first 2,000 guests to enter the park. Overnight, guests enjoyed character appearances (with some characters in pajamas), special food offerings and a viewing of Fantasmic!, the water show at Rivers of America.

As part of the celebration, for 60 days straight – from Jan. 1, 2012 to Feb. 29, 2012 – a daily winner was chosen in the “Disney Parks One More Disney Day Sweepstakes” to receive a Disney Parks vacation.  One entrant each day won a vacation for four to make memories at either Disneyland Resort in California or Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

The free app invites parents and kids to explore some of the many thrilling and whimsical experiences that can be found at Disneyland Resort, a premiere, multi-day, family vacation destination in Southern California.

With “Disneyland Explorer,” users can swipe their way from Pirates of the Caribbean to “World of Color” to themed suites at the Disneyland Hotel, discovering more than 100 exciting things to see and do across the resort. ANAHEIM, Calif. (January 29, 2012) — Kellie Nickerson – looking apropos in her fairy wings and green tutu – flew away from the field to capture the inaugural Tinker Bell Half Marathon at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif.

Nickerson, who hails from Albuquerque, N.M., captured her first win at Disney in 1:27:52, finishing ahead of Southern Californians Sharon Wilkinson of Winnetka (1:28:18) and Stacy Schafer from Carlsbad (1:28:54).

ANAHEIM, Ca. (January 19, 2012) — Pixie dust and fairy wings will overtake Disneyland Resort and the streets of Anaheim this weekend as thousands of runners participate in the inaugural Tinker Bell Half Marathon (Jan. 27 – 29).  TV sitcom star Megyn Price (Rules of Engagement) will be among the 17,000-plus runners taking part in this ultimate girls weekend, the latest event in the runDisney series and the second at Disneyland Resort.

The Tinker Bell Half Marathon, hosted by the city of Anaheim and Disneyland Resort, takes runners on a 13.1-mile trek through the Disneyland and California Adventure, as well as by several city of Anaheim landmarks. The half marathon, expected to draw 12,000 runners, will be filled with music, entertainment, Disney characters, runners in colorful Tinker Bell costumes and, of course, pixie dust, and finishing at Disneyland. Runners will receive a commemorative Tinker Bell “wings” medal.

The weekend of events, all geared toward health, fitness and active lifestyles for women, features a variety of races including The Neverland 5K on Friday night, kids’ races on Saturday and the Tinker Bell Half Marathon on Sunday. There will also be a health and fitness expo featuring the latest running merchandise, products, apparel and guest speakers – all tailored for women – creating a weekend of camaraderie and wellness, plus a pinch of Tinker Bell’s trademark sassiness and sense of adventure.

Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend is the second women-focused event weekend in the runDisney series.  Disney’s Princess Half Marathon Weekend takes place at Walt Disney World Resort Feb. 24 – 26.  Both event weekends are among the largest women-specific events in the country.
